Control your emotions

A man was afraid of his shadow and he was afraid of it every day and since he wanted to get away from it, this particular day he ran as fast as he could. The shadow kept up with him. He went faster but the more he increased his speed, the faster the shadow went, keeping up with him. When he stopped, the shadow was there. It stayed right by his side. Finally, he came to the conclusion that he hadn’t been running fast enough so he went all out this time but, unfortunately for him, it was too much for his body and he dropped dead of a heart attack.

He did not realize that if he had stood in one spot long enough, the shadow would have disappeared because of the sun – it would be underneath him when the sun was directly overhead.

What you realize here is he was trying to run away from his own emotion and was not in control of his emotions. Hence he was unable to think. Even in times of disparity, you need to be stronger, keep yourself together and not give into the situation. Else the situation will be in control and not you. You have to tell yourself that you are the one in control, which you will start believing soon, and eventually you will be in control of your emotions and in turn of the situation in hand.

Free Mind

Are we free? What according to you is free? Well free in the true sense means free in your mind. If only you can free your mind, can you truly call yourself free. Here is a small story to explain the same.

Vasu a pandit never accepted any gift from his disciples. But his son Kamal never refused anything that his disciples brought to him. This made Vasu unhappy.

One day, he reproached his son: "I do not accept any gift because gifts mean nothing to me. But it pains me to know that you grab all that your disciples bring to you."

Kamal said: "Father, if gifts mean nothing to you, why are you bothered whether I accept them or reject them?"

Vasu did not have a free mind. He wanted to believe he was free from worldly things, but the truth was he was not. If you take minutes of your life to feel no pain, no love, no stress, no nothing, these will be minutes in your life when you truly will be free. No one can make you free but yourself. Being free is a set of mind, a feeling which makes you free.

Mind Control

Why most people's minds are restless, and only a few possess a calm mind? What can one do to still the mind?

For example, an elephant was standing and picking leaves from a tree. A small fly came, flying and buzzing near his ear. The elephant waved it away with his long ears. Then the fly came again, and the elephant waved it away once more". This was repeated several times. Then the elephant asked the fly: "Why are you so restless and noisy? Why can't you stay for a while in one place?" The fly answered: "I am attracted to whatever I see, hear or smell. My five senses pull me constantly in all directions and I cannot resist them. What is your secret? How can you stay so calm and still?"

The elephant stopped eating and said: "My five senses do not rule my attention. Whatever I do, I get immersed in it. Now that I am eating, I am completely immersed in eating. In this way I can enjoy my food and chew it better. I rule and control my attention, and not the other way around."

If our five senses are in control of my mind and attention, then my mind is in constant unrest. If I am in charge of my five senses and attention, then my mind becomes calm. The mind is restless and goes wherever the attention is. Control your attention, and you control your mind.

Purpose of Life

Sometime in life we all have wondered, what is the purpose of our life? We are all living to grow up with some skills, then use them to make money and survive, have a family and then we leave the world. So what exactly are we doing here? Different people have different views, this is my view.

So what's the most important thing in life? I say relationships. You have to maintain relationships everywhere, at work, at home, with friends, everywhere. Some relationships make us feel good and some don't. But that's because you may have to balance something from some previous life. So everything in your life in every aspect its some part of the relationships that you are balancing. You have to give something or take something from someone. You may give or take something material or emotions etc.

You may feel its money or food or etc. But infact all this is for some relationship. Either you want to look good for some girl, or you want more money for your parents etc. You may want anything but it all comes down for some relationship that you want to make or keep. So the purpose of life is relationships and the balance you maintain in those and other things in life.

Joy of small things

We are so busy in our everyday work that we take for granted all that we have. When we eat, drink or breath, we are thinking only about the future, and what we are going to do then, but we waste the precious moment we have in hand. The bigger level of joy comes from small things in life, but we are too busy to take notice of that.

Small things like enjoying the food we eat, enjoy the nature around us, and enjoy the rain or the smell of a flower. There are times when you eat great food, but do not enjoy the taste because the mind is else where. These things are very simple and may sound very funny, but if all minds are set free and you tried doing any of the above, you will feel true joy in life. When you give something to someone only to see a smile on the persons face will give you great amount of joy.

If we take some time to notice the feeling in small things of life, we will understand what joy is all about. We have enough to do in life with our plate full with loads of work. But we must take a moment in everyday life to see and enjoy the small things, feelings, gestures we get and give everyone, and we should appreciate these things to live life to the fullest.

Are you packed.

We all live here, in this world collecting things all our life. Not all of us really get a chance to use any of those things we have collected. But we still collect and behave like we are going to live forever. But what we forget is we have come in this world only for a while, we are definitely going to leave and go from here. So are we preparing to leave this world or are we preparing to stay here?

That’s the real question. Human tendency is that we are going to stay here, and we forget the truth. We must think about this practically and prepare to leave and buy only things we need at the moment. We must start packing today, as suddenly if we leave, we will be unpacked. Probably that’s the reason people come back in this world, as they were not prepared to leave. So they are sent back, to prepare and only then leave. We must get what we need and sometimes for a bit of luxury. But we must learn to let go of the same, which is the most important thing.

You can be happy

At times in life we feel happy or sad, and we say it is because of something. Like if someone said something nice to you, you would feel happy, or if someone was to say something bad to you, you would feel sad. But think about this, what does it matter as to what others say. Why do we need social approval for things in life?

We are who we are, at times we behave in ways to please others, but at times we still don't change and come back to being what we were. So it all depends on what do you think about yourself. If you were confident about what you think and do, you would be good.

Whatever people say to you, only if that affects you will it change you being happy or sad. If someone abuses you, but you do not react and remain unchanged to that, it will not affect you, hence it will not upset you. So remember this "It is only you who makes you happy and it is only you who makes you sad."
